Designed to wick away moisture should you become too hot yet keep you snug and warm on colder nights, Silk Bedding Direct long-strand mulberry silk-filled duvets regulate temperature over a wider range than other duvets.
The top quality long-strand mulberry silk interior for each silk duvet is hand stretched into the casing and then individually loop sewn by hand through the casing to prevent movement of the silk inside. The duvet casing itself is a lusciously comfortable, yet durable and and long lasting, 300 thread count cotton sateen.
Hand loop sewing is used to avoid crushing the precious silk inside and prevent much needed insulating layers of air being expelled. It is a much superior method to machine "pattern" or "box" sewing and the result is a more comfortable, luxurious and higher quality silk duvet.
Most mulberry silk-filled duvets on the market today cannot be produced in this way because the quality of the silk used is not high enough. In order for hand loop sewing to be possible only the best long-strand mulberry silk can be used. For most mulberry silk-filled duvets the silk is simply not long enough, therefore machine sewing has to be used to keep the silk interior in place.
So knowing whether a silk duvet is hand or machine finished is a good way of knowing the quality of the silk inside. It wouldn't make sense to machine sew (and thereby crush and damage the silk) a silk duvet containing high quality long-strand mulberry silk.

Duvets and comforters can easily be mistaken for one another, but they are not the same. Duvets, sometimes called "European Duvets", require a separate cover in addition to the duvet. This provides duvets with two advantages over comforters.

The mattress topper casing itself is a soft and comfortable yet durable and long lasting 300 thread count cotton sateen.
A top quality "Secure-Fit" elasticated 300 thread count cotton sateen skirt is fitted around all the sides of the topper, this pulls underneath the topper with elastic in the same as a fitted bed sheet does. This ensures that the topper is attached to the bed much more securely and cannot shift once fitted. This is far superior as compared to the corner straps so often fitted to mattress toppers, and another example of Silk Bedding Direct's absolute best practice.
The silk interior is kept firmly in place within the casing without the need to sew back and forth across the whole of the mattress topper. Instead, to avoid crushing the precious silk inside, attractive flower patterns are loop sewn at regular intervals.
